I've told my 8 year old son that Facebook is ‘for grown ups’ and last week my almost 7 year old neighbor (who barely can read) told my son that he has an account, luckily my son told him ‘Facebook is not for kids’ (I was so proud to hear him say this).

But I don't know what will he think when his classmates begin to have Facebook accounts or when he gets a little older.

Facebook’s Terms of Service clearly prohibit the use of Facebook by anyone under the age of 13, so if you let your children to open a Facebook account you are telling them it’s Ok to lie about their age (what would they think when an adult site ask for their age to be 18 or older?).

My mom opened a Facebook account and friended my sister and she recently realized that my sister sometimes posts updates and blocks my mom from reading them (of course my sister also posts innocent updates so my mom doesn't get suspicious). So if you said ‘My children friended me on Facebook so I can read everything they post’ don’t be so sure My sister is an adult but still doesn’t want my mom to read about her crazy weekends.

Le he dicho a mi hijo de 8 años que Facebook es ‘para grandes’ y la semana pasada mi vecino de casi 7 años (que ni leer bien sabe) le contó a mi hijo que el tiene una cuenta en Facebook, felizmente mi hijo le dijo ‘Facebook no es para niños’ (me sentí muy orgullosa de escucharlo decir esto).

Pero no sé que va a pensar cuando sus compañeros comiencen a tener cuentas en Facebook o cuando esté un poco más grande.

Los Términos de Servicio de Facebook claramente prohíben el uso de Facebook para cualquier menor de 13 años, así que si dejas que tus hijos abran una cuenta les estás diciendo que está bien mentir acerca de su edad (¿que pensarán cuando un sitio para adultos les pida que tienen que tener mas de 18 años?).

Mi mamá abrió una cuenta en Facebook y se hizo amiga de mi hermana y recientemente se dio cuenta que mi hermana a veces coloca actualizaciones y bloquea a mi mamá para que no pueda leerlas (por supuesto que mi hermana también coloca actualizaciones inocentes para que mi mamá no sospeche). Así que si decías ‘Mis hijos son mis amigos en Facebook así que puedo leer todo lo que publican’ no estés tan seguro. Mi hermana es adulta pero aun así no quiere que mi mamá lea acerca de sus alocados fines de semana.

Magnetic Levitating Train /Tren Levitador Magnético

For my Son's Science Fair we made a Magnetic Levitating Train. We used a glass box, long magnets and a piece of styrofoam that can fit in the glass box.

For the tracks glue the magnets on the sides of the glass box, for the train glue magnets on the sides of the styrofoam making sure that you the poles would repel the tracks' magnets. Make sure to mark your train so you now how to place it.

Place the train over the tracks and watch that it floats (if you place it wrong it would stick to the rails)

To make your train move lift one side of the glass box tilting the rail to become a ramp; using gravity to pull the car forwards.

Para la Feria de Ciencias de mi hijo hicimos un Tren Levitador Magnético. Usamos una caja de vidrio, imanes largos y un pedazo de tecnopor del ancho de la caja de vidrio.

para los rieles se pegan los imanes a los lados de la caja, para el tren se pegan imanes a los lados del tecnopor teniendo cuidado de que los polos repelan los imanes de los rieles. Asegurate de marcar tu train para saber como colocarlo.

Coloca el tren sobre los rieles y mira como flota (si lo colocas mal se pegará a los rieles)

Para hacer que tu tren se mueva levanta un extremo de la caja de vidrio inclinando los rieles para que se conviertan en una rampa, usando la gravedad para empujar al tren hacia adelante.

My son had to bury abanana peel for a school project, I don't have a garden, or even a flower pot (my last flower pot turned into an ant colony). So I had to go to my mother's house to bury it, after two weeks it looked like this.

This is how I spent my Sunday. My SIL gave my son a 3D puzzle and of course he wanted to build it, well that puzzle was very delicate and I had to use glue in many pieces because they broke. When we finished I was very happy but my son was dissapointed, he wanted to know where were the 3d glasses to see it because it didn't look 3d for him.

Así pasé mi Domingo. Mi cuñada le dió a mi hijo un rompecabezas en 3D y por supuesto él queria armarlo, bueno, ese rompecabezas era bien delicado y tuve que usar goma en varias piezas porque se rompieron. Cuando terminamos yo estaba muy feliz pero mi hijo estaba desilusionado, quería saber dónde estaban los lentes 3D para verlo porque a él no le parecía en 3D.

Here in Peru we usually set a Nativity Scene with Joseph, Mary, Angels, Shepherds, sheep and other little animals. On Christmas Eve at midnight we place the baby Jesus in the crib.

I bought paints to make peelable glass stickers.
My son painted a soccer ball and a flower and sticked them on the window.
It was a two day project because first you have to draw the lines and when it's dry you can paint the inside, then you have to wait until it's completely dry to stick it on the window. I'm so glad he waited without getting mad.

Compré pinturas para hacer calcomanias que se pegan en vidrio.
Mi hijo pintó una pelota de futbol y una flor y los pegó en la ventana.
Fue un proyecto de dos días porque primero se pintan las lineas y cuando está seco se pinta el interior, luego hay que esperar a que esté completamente seco para pegarlo en la ventana. Estoy tan feliz de que él haya esperado sin molestarse.

I was camping during Peruvian Independence Day Holidays running away from Lima’s cold weather and I found the sun just an hour from Lima.
While it was raining in Lima yesterday, the sun was shining in Huarochirí.
Here is my son riding a horse, the weather is beautiful warm and sunny during the day but its cold in the night.

Estuve de campamento por Fiestas Patrias escapando del frío de Lima y encontré el sol a solo una hora de Lima.
Mientras ayer llovía en Lima en Huarochirí el sol brillaba.
Acá está mi hijo paseando en caballo, el clima es lindo cálido y soleado durante el día aunque en la noche hace frío.

My husband wakes up, lives, eats and spends almost every waking moment (and most dreaming one) thinking about soccer. He likes to watch it on TV, listens to it while driving, talks about it with anyone interested (usually not with me) and plays it every weekend (If he wasn’t so busy working he would play it on weekdays, he’s done that before). He knows who’s the first team, the second, the last, he knows every team of the Peruvian League’s First Division; he also follows the Second Division.
Imagine his disappointment to see my son not interested in playing it. My son doesn’t know how to play, can’t understand the rules and when we go to see his dad playing, he only keeps looking for my husband number and waves and calls him.
When my son was invited to a birthday soccer party the kids where divided in 4 teams and played between them, my son choose to play as a goalkeeper. He spent most of the time sitting on the floor; of course his teammates where angry with him because they lost (I don’t remember how many goals, I don’t like soccer either).
Some people will think that because of my son being almost 7 years old he is too young to play team sports like soccer, but that’s not the reality here in Lima Peru, kids as young as 3 or 4 go to soccer academies and almost every kid in the birthday party went with their soccer uniform (my son has a soccer uniform that my sister in law gave him but he doesn’t like to use it) and the other goalkeepers even had their gloves.
Is soccer a popular sport among children where you live?

Mi esposo se despierta, vive, come y pasa la mayor parte del día (y muchos de sus sueños) pensando en el fútbol. Le gusta verlo en la televisión, escucharlo mientras maneja, hablar de él con cualquiera interesado (usualmente no conmigo) y juega cada fin de semana (si no estuviera tan ocupado trabajando jugaría durante la semana, ya lo ha hecho antes). Se sabe cual es el primer equipo, el segundo, el último, se conoce cada equipo de la Primera División del Fútbol Peruano; también se sigue la Segunda División.
Imagínense su desilusión al ver que a mi hijo no le interesa jugarlo. Mi hijo no sabe jugarlo, no entiende las reglas y cuando vamos a ver a su papá jugar, se la pasa buscando el número de mi esposo y lo saluda y le pasa la voz.
Cuando invitaron a mi hijo a una celebración de cumpleaños de fútbol dividieron a los niños en 4 equipos y jugaron entre ellos, mi hijo escogió jugar como arquero. Se pasó la mayor parte del tiempo sentado en el suelo; por supuesto que sus compañeros de equipo estaban molestos con él porque perdieron (No recuerdo por cuantos goles, tampoco me gusta el fútbol).
Algunos pensarán que como mi hijo tiene casi 7 años está muy joven para deportes en equipo como el fútbol, pero esa no es la realidad acá en Lima Perú, niños desde los 3 o 4 años van a academias de fútbol y casi todos los niños en el cumpleaños fueron con su uniforme de fútbol (mi hijo tiene un uniforme de fútbol que le regaló mi cuñada pero no le gusta usarlo) y los demás arqueros incluso tenían sus guantes.
¿Dónde vives el fútbol es un deporte popular entre los niños?

My favorite ice-cream flavor is Lucuma. Lucuma is a Peruvian fruit the pre incan culture of Moche represented the fruit in their Huacos (ceramics). It’s green in the outside and yellow-orange in the inside (we Peruvians call Lucuma that color).
The pulp is dry and sweet (the more ripe the more sweet) and some people use it to make Lucuma flour. I love to eat the fruit or to blend it with milk, it’s delicious.
Here are some pictures of the outside of the fruit and the inside; It usually has one or two big seeds.

Mi helado favorito es el helado de Lúcuma. La Lúcuma es una fruta Peruana (la cultura preincaica Moche la representó en sus Huacos (cerámicas). El exterior es verde y el interior de un amarillo-anaranjado (los Peruanos llamamos a ese color Lúcuma).
La pulpa es seca y dulce (mientras más madura es más dulce) y algunas personas la usan para hacer Harina de Lúcuma. Me encanta comer la fruta o licuarla con leche, es deliciosa.
Acá muestro unas fotos del exterior y el interior de la fruta; usualmente tiene una o dos semillas grandes.

The elephant of the Lima Zoo is dead. Many children have never seen an elephant. When my son asked a guide of the zoo where the elephant was, she pointed somewhere in the map of the zoo and said the elephant bones where there. Of course my son wanted to see the bones. We walked in circles until someone pointed out the place. I remembered the elephant to be bigger, well I also remember the suspension bridge to be higher and that I was scared to cross it when I was my son’s age, he crossed the suspension bridge jumping happily. My son asking everyone at the zoo about the elephant made many children to want to see an elephant too, the guides weren’t happy. I hope the zoo gets an elephant soon.

El elefante del zoológico de Lima está muerto. Muchos niños nunca han visto un elefante. Cuando mi hijo le preguntó a una guía del zoológico donde estaba el elefante, ella señaló algún lugar en el mapa del zoológico y dijo que los huesos del elefante estaban ahí. Caminamos en círculos hasta que alguien nos señaló el sitio. Yo recuerdo que el elefante era mas grande, bueno también recuerdo que el puente colgante era más alto y que cuando tenia la edad de mi hijo me asustaba cruzarlo, él lo cruzó saltando alegremente. El que mi hijo le preguntara a todo el mundo acerca del elefante hizo que muchos niños también quisieran ver el elefante, las guías no estaban felices. Espero que el zoológico adquiera un elefante pronto.

Since my son was little I’ve taken him to museums. Of course I only go when there’s free entrance or when the entrance fees are cheap. I do that because sometimes he will love to go and sometimes we have to get out in less than a minute, usually when he wants to touch something and he’s not allowed.
So when 3 years ago children’s museum “Parque de la Imaginacion” opened, we were so happy, he can touch almost everything and have a great time. We even celebrate there his birthday number 4 and 5. Back then I had a part time job that allowed me to give him that and the first time only 14 kids went, but for his 5th birthday I had almost 45 kids because the ones who went told the ones who didn’t so the second time almost everyone I invited went (both my husband and I have large families).
It’s a great place, we just went yesterday again with my 5 year old niece, now they’re older and can enjoy more.

Desde que mi hijo era pequeño lo he llevado a museos. Por supuesto solo voy cuando hay ingreso libre o la entrada esta barata. Lo hago porque a veces le encanta ir y a veces tenemos que salir en menos de un minuto, generalmente porque él quiere tocar algo y no se lo permito.

Así que cuando hace 3 años un museo de los niños “El Parque de la Imaginación” abrió, estuvimos muy felices, él puede tocar casi todo y la pasa muy bien. Incluso le celebramos su cumpleaños número 4 y 5 allí. En esa época yo tenía un trabajo a tiempo parcial que me permitía darle ese gusto y la primera vez solo fueron 14 niños, pero para su 5to cumpleaños tuve casi 45 niños porque los que habían ido le contaron a los que no fueron y la segunda vez casi todos a los que invité fueron (mi esposo y o tenemos familias numerosas).
Es un magnifico lugar, ayer fuimos nuevamente con mi sobrina de 5 años, ahora son mayores y pueden disfrutar más.

Here in Lima it’s autumn but some days are sunny and some days cloudy. Even worst; you can be in a building and look outside one window and see the sun and look outside the other and see fog.
I have to travel from my home to get my son to therapies so when we get in the bus it’s hot and sunny and when we get to our destination it’s cold and foggy because the hospital is near the sea.
My son still goes in short and t-shirt to school so I have to take pants and a jacket to dress him when we get to my mother’s house, I have to take a sweater for me too. It looks like I’m going camping. It could be worst if I didn’t have a place to change him.
Last week many flights were canceled because of the fog in the airport.
Is the weather were you live crazy too?

Acá en lima es otoño pero algunos días son soleados y otros nublados. Peor aún, puedes estar en un edificio y ver por una ventana el sol y por la otra niebla.
Yo tengo que viajar de mi casa para llevar a mi hijo a sus terapias así que cuando subimos al autobús esta soleado y hace calor y cuando llegamos a nuestro destino hace frío y hay neblina porque el hospital queda cerca del mar.
Mi hijo aun va al colegio con short y polo así que tengo que llevar pantalones y chaqueta para vestirlo cuando llegamos a la casa de mi mamá, yo también tengo que llevar una chompa. Parece que me voy de campamento. Podría ser peor si no tuviera un sitio donde cambiarlo,
La semana pasada muchos vuelos fueron cancelados por la niebla en el aeropuerto.
¿El clima también esta loco en donde vives?

I have an ecologist son, if he’s not hugging trees, he’s sweeping the street (not his room unfortunately) and he’s constantly telling his dad to use less water when shaving, we go to picnics and he loves camping.
We are lucky to live near a big park and that his school has a zoo so he is constantly in touch with nature.
But we live in a small apartment with no garden, so planting a tree for Earth Day it’s not an option.
One of my Twitter friends @strieudal suggested me to plant egg carton seedlings; I’m going to try that this year.
What are you doing for Earth Day?

Tengo un hijo ecologista, si no está abrazando árboles, está barriendo la calle (lamentablemente no su cuarto) y constantemente le dice a su papá que use menos agua al afeitarse, vamos de picnic y le encanta acampar.
Somos afortunados de vivir cerca de un gran parque y que su colegio tenga un zoológico así que está constantemente en contacto con la naturaleza.
Pero vivimos en un departamento pequeño sin jardín, así que plantar un árbol por el Día de la Tierra no es una opción.
Una de mis amigas de Twitter @strieudal me sugirió plantar un semillero en el cartón de los huevos; voy a intentarlo este año.

If someone already gave you “Evil Eye” you need to be “cleaned”. When I was little my grandma used an egg that was later opened in a glass of water (we had chickens in the house so a fresh egg was always available). I never learned to interpret that.
When that doesn’t work a “healer” can perform a “cleanse” using a cuy (guinea pig) or a black hen, then he kills the animal. That’s what I’ve heard, I’ve never gone to one but know people that had been, true “healers” are scarce in these times, it was a tradition and supposedly the successor had the powers too, in some towns there are still “healers” called “chamanes”, when I was little I remember there where two near my home, an old man and an old lady.

Si alguien te dio “Mal de Ojo” (te “ojeó”) necesitas una “limpia”. Cuando yo era pequeña mi abuelita usaba un huevo que luego lo echaba en un vaso con agua (teníamos gallinas en la casa así que siempre había huevos frescos disponibles). Yo nunca aprendí a interpretar eso.
Cuando eso no funciona un “curandero” puede realizar una “limpia” usando un cuy (conejillo de indias) o una gallina negra, luego mata al animal. Eso es lo que he oído, nunca he ido a uno pero conozco a gente que ha ido, los verdaderos “curanderos” son escasos en estos tiempos, era una tradición y supuestamente el sucesor tenia los poderes también, en algunos pueblos aun hay “curanderos” llamados “chamanes”, cuando yo era niña recuerdo que había dos cerca de mi casa, un anciano y una anciana.

Yesterday was Palm Sunday. Here in Peru, Catholics celebrate, like in other places, bringing palms to Church. Peruvians don’t like plain palms like my fist picture, we like elaborated weaved designs like the second one, some people like crosses made of Palm.
When I was little, times where tough for my family so sometimes we didn’t have money to buy Palms. Because my grandmother always helped with the flowers in Church, the priest would give her an unweaved Palm and I would weave it.
Yesterday my husband and I woke up late so when we went to buy the Palm there were only unweaved ones, my son was disappointed because he wanted the pretty ones, so I quickly weaved it remembering my younger years.
After Mass the Palms are hung by the front door of the house and if someone in the family dies that year we place it in the coffin, if not, we take them to the Church the next year before Ash Wednesday to be burned to make ashes.

Ayer fue Domingo de Ramos. Acá en Perú, lo Católicos lo celebran, como en otros lugares, llevando Palmas a la Iglesia. A los peruanos no nos gustan las palmas simples, como en la primera figura, nos gustan los diseños elaborados como la segunda, a algunos les gustan las cruces hechas de Palma.
Cuando yo era pequeña, eran tiempos difíciles para mi familia así que a veces no teníamos dinero para comprar Palmas. Como mi abuelita siempre ayudaba en la Iglesia con las flores, el sacerdote le regalaba una Palma sin tejer y yo la tejía.
Ayer mi esposo y yo nos despertamos tarde y cuando fuimos a comprar solo había palmas sin tejer, mi hijo estaba decepcionado porque el quería una de las Palmas bonitas, así que yo la tejí rapidito recordando mis años de juventud.
Después de la Misa las Palmas se cuelgan por la puerta principal de la casa y si alguien de la familia muere ese año la ponemos en el ataúd, si no, la llevamos a la Iglesia el siguiente año antes del Miércoles de Ceniza para ser quemada para hacer las cenizas.

It’s still hot here in Peru, as a matter of fact, the sun is coming through my window in this April afternoon as bright as in the middle of February.
Last Friday and Saturday a traditional Peruvian Ice-Cream brand (now owned by a Swiss transnational) had a Promotion: EVERY ICE-CREAM selled througt the “carretilleros” (traditional tricycles who sell ice-creams) would be ONLY S/. 1.00 (one sol, something like US$ 0.32) as a THANK YOU for the Peruvian preference for their ice-creams.
Well, usually my son isn’t an angel at school and when he wants an ice-cream I only buy him S/. 0.50 (the cheapest) ones, but I told him that if he didn’t get an annotation on Friday (he gets at least 3 each week) I’d buy him a BIG ice-cream (If he indeed behaved at school I would only spend 1, maybe 2 soles: one for him, and one for me, not the usual price for BIG ice-creams that can cost as much as S/.4.50 each)
Well that day, you guessed, my son behaved at school, so we went ice-cream hunting, I had read early that morning that many people where twittering, writing to local newspapers and calling radio stations saying that the promotion was a fraud.
Every day as I walk with my son from school we pass like 3 or 4 “carretilleros” on our 20 minutes walk back home. That day we passed 0. It seemed that they vanished, we even searched for them. I went home and made some homemade ice-cream but the feeling was of disappoint.
I think the “ice-cream marketing guru’s” never thought it would harm so much their brand.
Some people found “carretilleros” but they only had the cheaper ice-creams or the newer experiments (new flavors that no one wants to eat, we Peruvian want our traditional ice-creams, the ones who we grew with) or you had to buy one BIG ice-cream at normal price in order to get another at discounted price.
ASPEC (Peruvian Consumer association) filed a complaint to INDECOPI (Peruvian Government Consumer Defense Institute).
The executives blame the “carretilleros”, and they blame the executives.
Now there’s an email circulating saying not to buy those ice-creams on Next Friday 10 and Saturday 11. (Here in Peru it’s a long Holliday weekend since Thursday 9, and Catholics don’t eat ice-cream on Holly Friday anyway)
The lesson is: if you can’t control what you offer don’t make an offer at all; because just as easy as people were eager to spread the word about your promotion, that same people (and more) will spread the word about boycotting you.

Todavía hace calor acá en Perú, de hecho, el sol esta entrando por mi ventana esta tarde de abril con la misma fuerza que a mediados de febrero.
El último viernes y sábado una marca tradicional peruana de helados (ahora propiedad de una trasnacional suiza) tuvo una promoción: CADA HELADO vendido en las carretillas (triciclos) costaría SOLO S/. 1.00 (un sol, algo de $0.32 dólares) a manera de GRACIAS por la preferencia peruana por sus helados.
Buen, normalmente mi hijo no es un ángel en el colegio y cuando quiere un helado le compro solo los de S/. 0.50 (los mas baratos), pero le dije que si no me traía una anotación el viernes (me trae al menos 3 cada semana) le compraría un helado GRANDE (si de verdad se comportaba en el colegio solo gastaría 1 o quizás 2 soles: uno para él y otro para mi, no el precio normal de los helados GRANDES que puede llegar hasta S/. 4.50 cada uno)
Bueno ese día, adivinaron, mi hijo se comportó en el colegio, así que fuimos en la búsqueda del helado. Ya había leído esa mañana que muchas personas estaban twitter, escribiendo a diarios locales y llamando a estaciones de radio diciendo que la promoción era un fraude.
Todos los días mientras camino con mi hijo desde el colegio pasamos 3 o 4 carretilleros en nuestra caminata de 20 minutos camino a la casa. Ese día pasamos a 0. Parecía que se habían desvanecido, incluso los buscamos. Fui a casa y preparé helado casero pero me quedó un sentimiento de decepción.
Creo que los “gurús del marketing de los helados” nunca pensaron que su marca se vería tan perjudicada.
Algunas personas encontraron carretilleros, pero estos solo tenían los helados baratos o los nuevos experimentos (sabores nuevos que nadie quiere comer, los peruanos queremos nuestros helados tradicionales, con los que crecimos) o tenias que comprar un helado GRANDE a precio normal para tener otro con descuento.
ASPEC (Asociación Peruana de Consumidores y Usuarios) presentó una denuncia ante INDECOPI (Instituto Nacional de Defensa de la Competencia y de la Protección de la Propiedad Intelectual).
Los ejecutivos culpan a los carretilleros, estos culpan a los ejecutivos.
Ahora hay un mail circulando diciendo que no compremos esos helados el Viernes 10 y Sábado 11 (acá en Perú hay un feriado de fin de semana largo desde el jueves 9, y los Católicos no comen helados en Viernes Santo de todos modos).
La lección es: si no puedes controlar lo que ofreces pues no lo ofrezcas; porque así como la gente se pasó la voz tan entusiasta sobre tu promoción, esa misma gente (y más) se pasarán la voz para boicotearte.

The Lord of Sipan, a Moche King that lived in Peru many years before the Incas, used a necklace made of silver and gold beads shaped like peanut fruit. Ten are made of gold and ten made of silver. Gold represents the Sun and silver the Moon. Moche Culture has two famous Constructions (huacas) one for the Sun and one for the Moon.

Embroidering Names/ Bordando Nombres

My first school homework for this year isn’t finished. After I buy and name my son’s school supplies I have to embroider his name in all his uniform.
Here in Peru all kids use uniforms to go to school, it doesn’t matter if your child is in a public or private school, you’ll have to buy a uniform (for gym classes students use a gym uniform) usually the school logo is in every article of clothing (even the socks), as my sister says the only thing that doesn’t have a logo are the underclothes.
And the school has norms for shoes and snickers, for example in my son’s school you can’t use sneakers with any colored feature, they must be completely black, if you go to the stores only a couple of brands offer all black sneakers so the kids look the same from head to toe.
Well I haven’t finished embroidering my son’s name in his uniform (maybe because I spend too much time online) and he came home today with two right sneakers, somewhere in Lima there’s a boy with two left sneakers. They’re six, by the way.
Tomorrow I’ll have to tell the teacher that despite her indications and the circular and the school rules and the parent teacher reunion; I didn’t named my son’s sneakers and he mixed them (the other mother didn’t named her son’s sneakers either so I’m not the only lazy mom in the class)
So now I’m hand embroidering his uniform for tomorrow, there are places here that can machine embroider the names but it’s too late to search and I was hoping to do that in the weekend.

Mi primera tarea del colegio de este año todavía no está terminada. Después de comprar y poner nombre a los útiles escolares de mi hijo tengo que bordar su nombre en todo su uniforme.
Acá en Perú todos los niños usan uniforme para ir al colegio, no importa si tu hijo esta en un colegio estatal o particular, tienes que comprar un uniforme (para educación física los alumnos usan uniforme de educación física) usualmente el logotipo del colegio esta en cada prenda de vestir (incluso las medias), como dice mi hermana lo único que no tiene logotipo es la ropa interior.
Y el colegio tiene normas para los zaparos y zapatillas, por ejemplo en el colegio de mi hijo no puedes usar zapatillas con adornos de colores, deben ser completamente negras, si vas a las tiendas solo hay un par de marcas que venden zapatillas completamente negras así que los niños se ven igual de la cabeza a los pies.
Bueno aun no he terminado de bordar el nombre de mi hijo en su uniforme (quizás porque paso demasiado tiempo en línea) y hoy vino a casa con dos zapatillas derechas, en algún lugar de Lima hay un niño con dos zapatillas izquierdas. Por cierto solo tienen seis años.
Mañana le tendré que decir a ola profesora que a pesar de sus indicaciones y la circular y el reglamento del colegio y la reunión de padres de familia con ella; no le puse nombre a las zapatillas de mi hijo y las confundió (la otra mamá tampoco le puso el nombre a las zapatillas de su hijo así que no soy la única mamá floja del salón)
Así que ahora estoy bordando a mano su uniforme para mañana, hay lugares en donde puedes mandar a bordar a máquina los nombres pero es muy tarde para ir a buscar y yo esperaba hacerlo el fin de semana.

Last week I’ve been buying school supplies, well that’s only half the work. After hunting for the school supplies I have to put my son’s complete name (we Peruvians use two names and two surnames) grade and section (my son is in first grade but there are 4 sections – classrooms) So I have to name EVERY pencil, color, crayon, magic marker (thin and thick), paintbrush, glue (stick, white, universal), scissors, sharpener, etc. and this is the easy part. Next you have to put a label with the same information (but with bigger letters) in the books, notebooks, folders, etc. and cover them with clear plastic to protect them. I’m lucky because in kindergarten I had to cover them with colored paper before the clear plastic, this year it’s only the plastic, it’s easier.

La semana pasada estuve comprando útiles escolares, bueno eso es solo la mitad. Después de ir a la caza de útiles escolares tengo que colocar el nombre completo de mi hijo (los Peruanos usamos dos nombres y dos apellidos) grado y sección (mi hijo esta en primer grado pero hay 4 secciones – salones) Así que tengo que poner nombre a CADA lápiz, color, crayola, plumón (delgado y grueso), pincel, goma (en barra, blanca, universal), tijeras, tarjador, etc. Y esa es la parte fácil. Luego debes de poner una etiqueta con la misma información (pero en letras mas grandes) en los libros, cuadernos, fólderes, etc. Y forrarlos con plástico transparente para protegerlos. Tengo suerte porque en Inicial tuve que forrarlos con papel de colores antes que el plástico, este año es solo el plástico, es más fácil.

Popular wisdom in Peru says that when the weather changes without reason (not change of seasons) it’s a sign that a tremor will occur.
If it’s summer and one day it rains, or if it’s winter and it’s sunny, or any season and it’s windy that day probably will be a tremor.
Last Friday it rained in the morning (here in Peru it’s summer), so when I took my son to Summer school I was thinking “rain… tremor”, well, that day at noon there was a tremor. What do you think?

La sabiduría popular acá en Perú dice que cuando el clima cambia sin motivo aparente (no es cambio de estación) es un signo de que va a ocurrir un temblor.
Si es verano y un día llueve, o si es invierno y esta soleado, o cualquier estación y esta ventoso, ese día probablemente hay un temblor.
El último viernes llovió en la mañana (acá en Perú es verano), así que mientras llevaba a mi hijo al vacacional estaba pensando “lluvia… temblor”, bueno, ese dia al medio día hubo un temblor. ¿Qué opinas?

Peruvian Marinera Norteña Peruana

I've been taken Marinera Norteña classes with my son. It’s a big class and mothers go with their children, there’s a mom that goes with her 3 children (2 girls and a boy).
Marinera is a traditional dance of the northern coast of Peru.
Women dance with long dresses and without shoes and some men dance without shoes too (it depends on the town they’re representing). Men use big hats. Both use handkerchiefs (you can dance marinera with any clothes but you can’t dance without a handkerchief).
The classes are good to develop gross motor coordination that’s why I take my son.

He estado tomando clases de Marinera Norteña con mi hijo. Es una clase numerosa y van mamas con sus hijos, hay una mamá que va con sus 3 hijos (2 niñas y 1 niño).
La Marinera es una danza tradicional de la costa norte del Perú.
Las mujeres bailan con vestidos largos y sin zapatos y algunos hombres bailan sin zapatos también (depende de el pueblo al que representan)
Lo hombres usan grandes sombreros.
Ambos usan pañuelos (se puede bailar marinera con cualquier ropa pero no se puede bailar sin pañuelo)
Las clases son buenas para desarrollar la coordinación motora gruesa, por eso las tomo con mi hijo.
